- PhD candidates will be required to take two comprehensive area examinations.
- Students must take one core area. For the other exam, they can either take another core area or one of the specialty areas. The specialty areas may not be offered every year depending on the availability of faculty.
- The examining committees will ensure that there is no extensive overlap in the examination of each student.
- All comprehensive examinations require TWO members chosen from the appropriate area committee.
- Supervisors may not chair a comprehensive examination.
