The Story of a Generation: Life Course Pathways of the Class of ’73

We are thrilled to share the publication of The Story of a Generation: Life Course Pathways of the Class of ’73, a major new contribution to Canadian Sociology from University of Toronto Press. This compelling volume brings together decades of data, surveys, and in-depth interviews with a high school cohort that graduated in 1973 to trace nearly 50 years of life course experiences. The authors explore how educational backgrounds, economic shifts, changing gender roles, technological advancements, and evolving social expectations shaped the trajectories of this influential generation, offering both rich personal stories and profound insights into broader societal transformation.
We’re especially proud to note that our own Karen Robson, Department Chair and Ontario Research Chair in Academic Achievement and At-Risk Youth, is one of the co-authors, as well as Erica Fae Thomson, a recent graduate of our PhD program, joining other distinguished scholars in this important long-term study.
The Story of a Generation is now available for purchase on various platforms including the University of Toronto Press.
