Vanessa Watts and Hayden King reflect on the AFN election

The Globe and Mail published an op-ed by Vanessa Watts, Director of Indigenous Studies and Assistant Professor of Sociology at McMaster University and Hayden King, Executive Director of Yellowhead Institute at Ryerson University on the "impossible reconciliation" that First Nations citizens faced in the recent election of the Assembly of First Nations.

"As an advocacy organization built from the ground up to hold the state accountable for its relentless machinations against First Nations authority and sovereignty, the AFN now seems to run interference for the state. This is the impossible reconciliation First Nation citizens are forced to make every time the AFN holds an election,” argue Watts and King.
