In their Settler Colonial Studies journal article, McMaster Sociology PhD candidate Mollie McGuire and Sociology professor Jeff Denis examine how some settler Canadians come to seek reconciliation with Indigenous peoples.

Based on in-depth interviews with forty Truth and Reconciliation Commission (TRC) event participants, McGuire and Denis investigate the pathways whereby some settler Canadians come to engage in activities whose stated aims include reconciliation with Indigenous peoples. They identify six facilitating conditions and several common challenges, which, depending on how they are managed, may inhibit or promote deepened commitment to reconciliation activism.
