Sociology students present research at international conference

Sociology PhD student, Alan Santinele-Martino, and 4th-year undergraduate student, Tianna-Lynn Follwell, were part of a team from McMaster University presenting their research, “Teaching at the Intersections: Identity, Social Location, and the Experiences of Teaching Assistants” at the International Society for the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning conference in Bergen, Norway last month.

This research was conducted under the supervision of Dr. Beth Marquis at the MacPherson Institute. Follwell and Santinele-Martino conducted interviews with teaching assistants to learn how their social locations, such as race, ethnicity and gender, affects their experiences in the classroom.
