Film explores dark legacy of colonization roads in Muskoka and beyond

Metroland Media quoted the Department of Sociology's Jeff Denis, who appears in a film about "colonization roads" that run through Muskoka and Parry Sound, and are the focus of a CBC documentary to be aired on Thurs., Jan. 26.

“Colonization is not just something that happened in the past,” states Jeff Denis, associate professor of sociology at McMaster University, in the film. “One of the things that Patrick Wolfe says, who is a theorist of settler colonialism, is that it is a structure, not an event. It is an ongoing process, something that we reproduce every day through our actions.”
