Dr. Casey Scheibling, Adjunct Faculty at McMaster Sociology and Postdoctoral Fellow at U of T coauthored “The Division of Domestic Labour before and during the COVID-19 Pandemic in Canada: Stagnation versus Shifts in Fathers’ Contribution” by Kevin Shafer, Casey Scheibling and Melissa A. Milkie, Canadian Review of Sociology Nov. 5, 2020.
The changes brought on by the pandemic have reshaped parents' gendered division of labour. Results of research from 1,234 parents in different-sex relationships reveal small shifts toward a more equal division of labour with increased participation from fathers in housework and childcare. Implications of these short-term trends on family life and gender equality are also discussed.
