2020 Early Career Researcher Awards

Congratulations to the recipients of the 2020 Early Career Researcher Award Vanessa Watts (Department of Sociology) and Adam Lavecchia (Department of Economics).

May 27, 2020

McMaster's Faculty of Social Sciences Early Career Researcher Award recognizes the research excellence of early career Social Sciences faculty members. Research excellence is demonstrated through contributions to one’s field of study, an ability to provide a stimulating and challenging research environment that incorporates students and teaching, and an ability to communicate research results effectively to relevant audiences.

Vanessa Watts is an assistant professor in the Department of Sociology. Her research focuses on Indigenous material knowledge production sites amongst the Haudenosaunee and Anishinaabe. She examines the roles of gender, sexuality, spirit, and other-than-humans in how material knowledge is produced and inherited within Indigenous communities amidst colonialism. Her research is framed within broader discussions of how epistemology and ontology are oriented to Indigenous cosmologies.

Adam Lavecchia is an assistant professor in the Department of Economics. His research interests span the fields of public economics and labour economics.
