National Recognition for Sociology Researchers: Watts and Young Named Canada Research Chairs

Two of Sociology’s very own, Vanessa Watts and Marisa Young, have been nationally recognized as world class researchers, earning appointments in the Canada Research Chairs Program.
Vanessa Watts has been newly named as a CRC and her research will examine experiences of Indigenous residents from local Hamiltonian institutions such as the Mohawk Institute Residential School and the Hamilton Mountain Sanatorium. Watts uses “re-neighbouring” to rebuild communities and histories of these former residents.
Marisa Young is a renewed CRC in Mental Health and Work Life Transitions. In support of the McMaster based Advanced Research on Mental Health and Society Lab, Young will receive additional funding through the John R. Evans Leaders Fund.
