This year, we are participating again in the Social Sciences Food Drive Challenge in support of Hamilton Food Share!

For 20 years, the Faculty of Social Sciences has run a food drive in support of Hamilton Food Share (HFS).  Hamilton Food Share is the emergency food shipping and receiving hub, and emergency food systems coordinator for the network of agencies across Hamilton.

Last year we broadened our food drive to include all areas across the University and our combined efforts were very successful:  together we raised over $10,000 and collected over 100 non-perishable items!

Again this year, for the upcoming Holiday season, all departments across the University are being challenged with this task!  Sociology has signed up for the food drive competition, with hopes to collect the most food, raise the most funds and to be a part of supporting Hamilton’s Emergency Food Network.

So, what are we asking of you ….

We are looking to collect either monetary and/or food donations.

Food Donations:

See the attached or below for the most needed food items:

• Grains (rice, pasta, oatmeal, cereal)
• Fruits & Vegetables (canned vegetables & fruit, juice, soups, pasta sauces)
• Protein Sources (canned stew/chilli & meats, beans, peanut butter)
• Baby Products (formula, baby food, baby wipes, diapers)
• School safe snacks
• Personal care items

Food donations can be dropped off in KTH 627 anytime Monday-Friday between 9am-12pm and 1pm-4pm.

Monetary donations:

Did you know that a $1 donation provides $5 worth of food?

• Donations of $10 or more will receive a tax receipt.
• Cheques, made payable to Hamilton Food Share
• Please provide your full name and address if you would like a tax receipt
