Congratulations to Sarah Masri for successfully completing her doctoral degree!

Dissertation title: Intersectionality of Race and Religion and its Association with Academic Achievement and Post-Secondary Pathways.

This dissertation explores the high school experiences of Canadian Muslim Youth under the Toronto District School Board. The first chapter was an exploratory study that presented the diversity of the Muslim diaspora in racial/ethnic backgrounds, languages spoken, region of birth, and their years of arrival in Canada. The second chapter explored the educational outcomes of Muslim students in comparison to students from other religious identifications, including average grades from Grades 9 to 12 and post-secondary pathways. The third chapter also examined the academic achievement of Muslim students, however with a specific focus on the intersection of race and country of origin, and whether or not this intersection has an impact on their high school education. Through this quantitative exploration, this dissertation takes a deeper look at Canada’s Muslim population in the diaspora, and how these differences play out in their academic journeys and achievements, whether it is across Muslims of various racial backgrounds or in comparison to students from other religious backgrounds.
