Media and Social Issues

An analysis of the relationships between mass media and modern society. Topics may include ideology and agenda-setting in the media, representations of social problems (e.g., homelessness, violence), moral panics, media scandals, or public ceremonies. Lectures and discussion (three hours); one term.
